Greater Manchester Low Carbon Hub. Delivering Greater Manchester's transition to a low-carbon economy

Oxford Rd Heat Network commences

Crossing the Corridor

These future-proofing works will enable the University to interconnect existing buildings and future developments across the campus as part of its Estate Strategy and Energy Investment Plan.  The Energy Investment Plan seeks to support the University’s target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2021 from a 2005/6 baseline, by increasing efficiency and reducing carbon intensity.

The infrastructure investment has been synchronised with the wider Bus Priority Works along Oxford Road, which is transforming one of Manchester city centre’s key transport routes as part of a wider £1bn package of investment in city centre infrastructure improvements.

The pace of this project has demonstrated the ongoing, positive collaboration between Manchester City Council and the University.  Combining works in the same programme with the Oxford Road Bus Priority scheme has reduced disruption to residents and businesses along the route, as well as the many commuters using the route every day.
